Hi,

Hope you had a happy Easter and Thank You
to all who wrote to wish me a Happy Easter and

Tip: There Are Things Worse Than Spam On The Internet

We are all familiar with spam and most of us
have taken measures to either stop receiving
it or at least reduce the amount we see in our
inboxes.

Why, because it's a nuisance!

We all know about computer viruses
either through first hand experience or by
reading about them and, hopefully, have
anti-virus software on our machines.

Why, because they can do some real harm
to our machines and business!

But are you aware of dangerous software
called spyware? It comes in 3 flavors:

1. "cookies"
2. "adware"
3. malicious programs like "keystroke loggers"

Cookies are used by many sites for legitimate
reasons however they can also represent a danger
of lost privacy because they can be used to track
you across multiple sites to figure out a lot more
information about you.

"Adware" also tracks your movement across sites
but it also spies on your installed software and
computer habits. It is used to bring you additional
popup ads and modify websites before you see
them with the intention of trying to get you to buy
things.

"Keystroke loggers" are used to record passwords,
credit cards, and other personal data. That data
then gets relayed to the person who put the software
on your computer. These malicious programs
exist for the sole purpose of causing you personal
and financial damage.

How do we get Spyware on our computer?

Here are 4 ways to get that offensive software
on our machine:

1. It can come along with other software you
download from the internet

2. It can come as email attachments and
automatically install itself when you open
the email message.

3. Hackers find an open port on your machine
and use the "back door" to install it.

4. Someone with direct physical access to your
computer and wants to know exactly what
you're doing can install it.

Now here's the shocker.

Having the most recent and up-to-date
anti-virus software on your machine and
using a firewall does not protect you from
these threats.

While I have never been plagued with a
"keystroke logger" I can tell you from
personal experience that I have fallen
prey to the other 2 types. In fact there
was a time when there was so much
"adware" on my machine that I couldn't
close the popups fast enough to visit
any of the sites I wanted to see.

To protect yourself you need a program
that specifically scans your system for the
thousands of existing spyware programs
and the new ones appearing daily.
