*GREETINGS
Sometimes taking a step back in time does the heart wonders. A recent walk took me past a very old barn. I stood and watched this remarkable structure defy the strong winds that tugged at its sturdy yet very old boards. The scents of that old barn took me back many a year to Grandfather?s farm. Even though his barn had been rebuilt and was metal, the smell of freshly baled hay lingered amongst the memories of well worn tractor parts, old tools and used axel grease.

As I stood mesmerized by this barn, a hawk took up residence in an open window looking for an evening meal. About that time, my wish came true and the owner came out of his home asking if I wanted a look around. It didn?t require much effort to get him talking about the barn and even older fishing boat he built by hand.

As time passed I learned about his wife he lost years earlier. He spoke of how she tolerated all the gadgets he designed to build the boat and the busted knuckles he suffered trying to get them to work. I once again heard my Grandfather speak with pride when one of those gadgets worked. As I thanked the man for taking his time, a tear welled in his eye. His wife was killed by a drunk driver. It had been awhile since someone had stopped and he enjoyed reminiscing as much as I did listening.

Have a very safe and wonderful Thanksgiving!

*TIMELY TIPS:
A reader wrote and said she had been through a year and a half of my cleaning tips and nowhere could she find how to remove pet stains and odors from carpeting. Thank you for the reminder! More pets spend their time indoors during colder months so let?s take a look at a few easy solutions to pet care.

If your pet has ever, well, lost their lunch after eating a meal and a stubborn red stain remains, switch pet food. The red dye in their food causes those problems. Dogs and cats are color blind. They can?t see the colors anyway.

To remove those stains, this works for Kool-Aid and punch as well, mix a 50/50 solution of hydrogen peroxide to water. Soak the stain and wait 30 minutes. Rinse with ¼ cup of white vinegar per pint of water. Rinse a second time with plain water blotting thoroughly. Do test an out of the way spot first. Peroxide is bleach and can take the color out of some carpets. Do not use peroxide on wool or Persian carpets. To remove vomit follow the directions just below for removing urine.

If your pet has an accident quickly remove as much liquid as possible. When treating the area remember that when a liquid of any kind hits the padding it spreads. It?s important to treat an area at least twice as large as the surface stain to remove all the urine. Otherwise the odor returns and your pet will keep coming back to the same spot.

After blotting up what you can, head to the pet store for a bottle containing live enzymes. I?ve heard Nature?s Miracle is quite good. Pour enough of the product on to saturate to the padding. Also cover an area at least twice as large as the surface stain. Follow bottle directions. Blot thoroughly rinsing with ½ cup of white vinegar per quart of water. Rinse again with plain water.

Pets generally will not urinate or defecate in their own sleeping quarters. If your pet tends to have problems at night or when you are away, keep them in a smaller, confined area. If you can teach your pet to sleep in one spot, purchase an all white table cloth. Turn that fuzzy side up on the floor and cover with one or two light colored body size bath towels. If your pet does have an accident the towels catch the liquids and the plastic table cloth protects the floor. Both are easy to launder.

SHORT CLIPS
When asked what great deeds she wanted to accomplish, Mother Theresa replied ?There are not great deeds ? only small deeds done with great love.?
